Macguffin Vibes, the company's music and games arm, introduces a season-long project built around a fictional nine-time last-place finisher and a sixteen-song soundtrack

SEATTLE — September 2026 — Macguffin Co today announced the launch of Garbage Time Is My Time with Dave McGillicuddy, a free browser-based music and games experience released through Macguffin Vibes, the company's record label and game studio. The site is live now at garbagetimeismytime.com and requires no download, account, or payment.

The project is built around Dave McGillicuddy, a fictional forty-one-year-old from Perch Creek, Ohio, who has finished dead last in his twelve-team fantasy football league for nine consecutive seasons. Under his league's constitution, the last-place finisher funds the championship party — a rule that, after nine years of hosting celebrations in his own dishonor, left Dave with what he calls his Party Debt. Dave brought the problem to Macguffin Co: he had songs, a band on hiatus, and a debt. He needed a way to turn the first two into a solution for the third.

"Dave came to us with a bar-band demo, a spreadsheet of his losses, and a very specific number he owed his friends," said Jeff Belle, CEO of Macguffin Co. "Most pitches we hear are about winning. This was the first one built entirely on losing, repeatedly, in public, for nearly a decade. That's a franchise. Macguffin Vibes exists to turn a song into something you can play, and Dave gave us sixteen of them and a reason to care about every one."

How it works

The site pairs original songs with games timed to them. Players tap WARM UP and the song begins; three drills rotate verse by verse and end when the song does — roughly four minutes, or one commercial break before kickoff.

  • He's Open — spot the open receiver and tap him before the throw goes out.

  • Wide Left — a marker sweeps a wind gauge; tap KICK when it crosses the red zone.

  • Points Don't Lie — two box scores appear; tap the one that scored more before the clock runs out.

Beyond the drills, the site includes Draw It Up, a whiteboard where players draw a route, run it, name it, and share the result; The Bulletin Board, a weekly trash-talk generator that drafts a custom smack card addressed to a named opponent under a play clock; The Combine, which runs a friend through a fictional scouting report — their photo, their invented measurables, their scouting grade — and sends the card straight to a group chat; Maulers Watch, where Dave posts a weekly account of how his team lost again; and The Pro Shop, a curated storefront of league trophies, last-place punishments, and official gear.

All image processing in The Combine happens in the visitor's own browser. Photos are never uploaded or stored.

The soundtrack

Garbage Time Is My Time is the first of sixteen songs planned for release across the season — one per week, with a bye week, mirroring the schedule Dave keeps losing on. Track two, "Your Team Is My Bye Week," is live now. Each week's release joins a sixteen-slot soundtrack on the site, alongside a short animated performance video of Dave delivering that week's song.

The songs are credited to Macguffin Vibes and recorded by Dave with occasional contributions from The Backup Plans, the bar band he fronts. The Backup Plans are on hiatus: their practice space, the drummer's mother's garage, has been converted into a short-term rental. The band's other members — Russ Tibbets, Terry Vibbert, and Doug Grabowski — are also, catastrophically, members of Dave's fantasy league.

Songs are distributed to streaming services through Macguffin Vibes. Every stream, in Dave's accounting, is progress against the Party Debt.

"I want to be clear that I have never once quit," said Dave McGillicuddy. "I have lost fifty-one games by less than a point. Statistically, that's a kind of consistency. If people listen to the songs, I pay off the party I threw for a man who beat me by point-two, and next year I win the whole thing. That's the plan. It has been the plan for nine years."
